Yavapai County Homes for Sale

In the mountain heart of Arizona, you’ll find Yavapai County embracing the future while reflecting the history of the old west with businesses, industry, and modern residential developments side by side uninhabited land, homesteads, Spanish Land Grant ranches, abandoned mines, gold rush boomtowns, Native American dwellings, and the remnants of U.S. Cavalry forts. In Yavapai County, you’ll find families with children, retirees, college students, and artists, as well as modern-day gold prospectors and traditional cowboys living a rustic lifestyle.

Yavapai County is one of the state’s original four counties created in 1864. It was originally sixty-five thousand square miles and was named after the “people of the sun,” the Yavapai Tribe. Of course, the history of the area predates the formation of the county, which is why you can find prehistoric artifacts throughout Yavapai. Today, the county is roughly the same size as Massachusetts with just over eight thousand, one hundred square miles. The U.S. Forest Service administers thirty-eight percent of its land, while twenty-six percent of its land is owned by corporations and individuals, twenty-seven percent by the State of Arizona, nine percent by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, and less than one-half percent consists of Native American reservations. That said, there are three reservations in the county: the Camp Verde, the Clarkdale, and the Yavapai-Prescott reservations.

Most of the county’s population and labor force are located in the towns of Dewey-Humboldt, Camp Verde, Cottonwood, Sedona, Clarkdale, Jerome, Chino Valley, Prescott Valley, and Prescott, the county seat.
